Tax Investigations – cover ups, blocking information requests, read on
1 CommentIs this the latest block buster from Dan Brown, no this is our very own elected MPs!!!
We are all aware of the scandal that has engulfed our publically elected figures in relation to expense claims, compliance procedures or lack of them and guess what not a peep regarding an HMRC enquiry, PAYE NI compliance audit or an inland revenue tax investigation – why, well these upstanding figures have done everything they can to stop this entering the public domain. Conspiracy theory, I hear you shout well take out those well intentioned ear plugs, sit back and face the facts!
In January 2005, journalist Heather Brooke made a request under the Freedom of Information Act for the release of details of MPs expense claims. This was allowed by the Information Tribunal – which is not widely known! but guess what, using £100,000 of your money and mine, Michael Martin, the EX Commons Speaker, instigated a High Court action to block the disclosure stating it was, and read these words carefully … “UNLAWFULLY INTRUSIVE” – without going into a Victor Meldrew moment – I don’t believe it! but they got away with it. Then we had the Daily Telegraph revelations, which are truly disgusting. So you would think the first reaction would be to launch an investigation into the expense claims – No, not these parasites, instead Malcolm Jack, the Clerk of the Commons, contacted Scotland Yard saying that he thought there were “reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence may have been committed” – not by the MPs, perish the thought but by the whistle blower!Keep reading my blog for further insights
